Students are eligible for Advanced Standing if they have a BSW from a CSWE Accredited Program.
A Bachelors Degree in Social Work (BSW) is not required for admission to the On-Line MSW Program.
However, students without an Accredited BSW Degree must follow the Regular Track Sequence which involves additional foundational course work needed for an MSW.
Students who have a BSW degree from a CSWE accredited university may apply for the Advanced Standing sequence which will lessen the hours needed for graduation.
Additionally, Human Biology and Statistics are required to be completed before the concentration year. More information about these courses can be obtained at the Continuing Education Office.
Students should discuss their particular circumstances with the Graduate College and the MSW Director to find out if their course work is transferable. Please note that no more than 6 hours can be transfered between universities at the graduate level.
You will need access to a computer with Microsoft Office and high-speed internet in order to access and complete course materials on-line. Additionally, courses may require other equipment, such as web cameras, dvd/video recorders, specific computer programs, etc that should be factored into your costs for education.
The application process is a two-fold process; you will need to apply to both The Graduate College and The School of Social Work at Texas State University -San Marcos. Application materials can be downloaded from our website.

We will begin accepting and reviewing applications on February 1, 2008. We will accept applications until classes begin or both Regular Track and Advanced Standing On-line programs are full. Therefore, it is important to apply as early as possible.
Course start and end dates correspond with regular semester hours during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. The Academic Calendar can be accessed from the Registrar's Office homepage at http://www.registrar.txstate.edu/.
Additionally, professors assign due dates to assignments and tests. While the online format of the program allows students to complete assignments at their own convenience, deadline are still strictly enforced.

There is a sequence in which courses MUST be completed each semester, and it is not possible to finish courses before their assigned end date. The Regular Track sequence will take approximately 4 years to complete at part-time enrollment and the Advanced Standing sequence will take approximately 2 years to complete at part-time enrollment. Specific degree outlines will be posted at a later date.
YES. There is a fieldwork requirement consistant with CSWE standards. Regular Track students are required to complete four part-time semesters and Advanced Standing students are required to complete two part-time semesters. You will need to identify a local internship opportunity. Please visit the Field Office website if you have more questions about the fieldwork requirement.
The field work for an MSW student varries according to their track and specialization. Contact Mr. Dave Henton for the specifics.
In order to be a successful online student, you must be organized, self-motivated, and proactive. Additionally, you must have regular access to a computer with internet and an up-to-date operating system. As previously mentioned, the on-line curriculum is the same as our on-campus curriculum, and our on-line students are expected to meet the same high standards that we have for our on-campus students.
To see if on-line education will be a good match for you, please visit the Office of Correspondence Study and take their self-assessment quiz.
Tuition for the On-Line program is similar to tuition for the on-campus program. Although some campus fees will be waived, an electronic learning fee will be applied. Please visit Cats Web for an estimation of tuition costs at http://catsweb.txstate.edu/catsweb/sa/index.htm
