Areas of Research Coordinator Expertise

  • Ms. Sterling assists in grant proposal development, and identifies key funding sources that match targeted areas for research faculty development in the School.  She works with PIs to ensure that proposal requirements are met, aids in budget development, edits and reviews documents upon request, and works closely with ORSP to streamline the submission process.
  • Ms. Sterling also supports and assists principal investigators with award review, set-up, and administration, including payment processing and hiring, ordering equipment and supplies, processing grant related travel, and requesting research advances. She monitors grant budgets in the SAP enterprise system, provides budget updates as needed, is responsible for all other post-award tasks, and serves as an information and problem solving resource.

Ms. Sterling began her career as a legal assistant in her hometown, Toronto, Canada in a corporate/commercial, securities, and contracts specialty practice.  She continued in that career for almost 25 years in Vancouver, Canada, Seattle and Bellingham, Washington where she managed a multi-million dollar state mandated watershed planning grant over 7 years on behalf of the local municipal government and all water interest caucuses.  She has extensive occupational skills in higher education, government, legal and private sector environments.  Ms. Sterling specializes in software applications, editing, and executing business functions in newly created units, including development and maintenance of functional systems and policies.  With almost 40 years of experience in legal, government, and private sector organizations, Ms. Sterling has valuable expertise in contracts, law, strategic planning, development, and communications.
