Dr. Laura Summerhill

Dr. Laura Summerhill, LCSW, joined Texas State University in 2004, teaching until 2007, when she pursued her PhD.  Dr. Summerhill holds degrees from New York University (PhD), Columbia University (MSW), Bank Street College of Education, (MS Ed in Special Education), and Florida State University (BSW).  She holds a post-graduate certificate in Clinical Issues in Adoption from Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College and has researched and written about Intercountry Adoption. She has experience as a clinical social worker in various settings including corporations, corrections, private practice, and foster and adoption agencies.  Since 2012, Dr. Summerhill has taught online across the curriculum.  She volunteers recording incarcerated mothers reading to their children with the Women’s Storybook Project of Texas, teaching ESL to recent immigrants with Literacy Advance of Houston, and Girl Scouts. She enjoys art classes and running marathons.
